The Weaving Handbook
by Åsa Pärson and Amica Sundström
Who better to write the new classic on Swedish weaving techniques than Åsa Pärson, the accomplished and adroit Swedish weaver whose upholstery designs adorn the chairs of the United Nations? Along with her collaborator, Amica Sundström, these two phenoms have pulled together a book with impressive range and detail. You could focus only on weaving Åsa's "cottage decor" projects that marry Swedish tradition with chic Japanese minimalism (or is it the other way around?). Or you could delve deeply into their comprehensive weave structure analysis section, replete with drafts, drawdowns, and fabric snapshots. Or you could rely on it solely for weaving tips and techniques, always at-the-ready on your loom bench or night stand (where mine has taken up permanent residence). Weavers need an arsenal of reference books, but this one should go into your emergency evacuation bag.
